Our third nominee for The 4 Best Balloon Innovations In 33 Years is  “R-E-A-L™ Balloon Art”.

R-E-A-L™ BALLOON ART

The third innovation that we rank among the four best  of  the  last  1/3 century  is  the
R-E-A-L™ (Rouse-Expand-And-Load™) approach to balloon grid frames for graphics, sculpture and general decorations MadeWithBalloons™.

This Rouse original approach uses “overlapping cut” flexible plastic balloon grid frames. The end user expands the frame and loads it with balloons.

[A]  PRE-CUT SHAPES

Animation of RMS™, REAL™ (Rouse-Expand-And-Load™) balloon grid frame being expanded and loaded with balloons & then showing example of finished heartsSome REAL frames are pre-cut so as to turn into specific shapes when expanded and loaded with balloons. The RMS™, pre-cut, heart shaped frame to the right is one example. Simply expand it and load it to get the basic heart. Then, experiment with different colors, overlays, attachments, combinations of balloons, etc. to create a broad range of deigns.

Here are 20 more examples of R-E-A-L™ grid frame shapes.

[B]  MODULAR PANELS

Other REAL frames are modular panels. They connect by hand to make sheets as large as you like. They may be cut with scissors into custom shapes of your own design. They may be bent and twisted, etc. to make custom forms of your own.

They are available in three main grid patterns:

(1)  SQUARES

  • square-grid-illustration-01.
A two axis grid. It is especially simple to lay out and plan

  • .

(2)  HONEYCOMB (hexagons)

  • hexagon-honeycomb-grid-illustration-01.
    A three axis grid
It is the most efficient for filling space using round balloons.

  • .

(3)  ROSA (octagon-square combinations)

  • octagon-square-grid-illustration-01.
    A four axis grid
It combines advantages from square grids and honeycomb grids.

.

.
[C]  SCULPTURE FORMS

Other REAL frames
turn into predetermined 3-D forms when balloons are loaded. They are automatic balloon sculptures. Spiral, Umbrella and Puffed Heart examples are shown below.

[D]  CUSTOM FRAMES

You may have custom designed RMS REAL frames made to your specifications. That is what Laurie Strauss did for the shoe in her first prize “Old Woman In the Shoe” large sculpture entry at the 2015 Float convention.

Below, you see (1) an RMS™ graph paper model, (2) the prize wining entry, (3) Laurie with awards as Designer of the Year.

[E]  R-E-A-L™ ADVANTAGES

If limited balloon skills make it especially important to have the frame hold itself open for you, then you may prefer stiff or rigid balloon grid frames for your square grid modular panels..

If you are willing to invest a little time to learn a few simple, REAL loading skills then you will gain advantages like

  • Three grid patterns for your jobs vs. one
  • Dozens of specialty pre-cut shapes
  • Self forming sculpture frames
  • Phenomenally more compact “hardware”
  • A huge reduction in weight.
  • A much lower cost.for frames

and

  • Exceptional flexibility
  • Unparalleled versatility

PLUS free use of advanced, proprietary technology to make your projects especially

  • SIMPLE
  • EASY
  • STRONG
  • FAST.
